Gottcha, our little Fen Fen!!

Well, today did not begin as we planned.  Last night, we ate Papa John's Pizza for dinner.  We were so excited to see pizza.  Apparently, my body did not feel the same way.  We are not sure what happened: probably a combination of the grease, cheese, and nerves, I spent a lot of my night being ill----really ill.  I'll leave the details out.  About 5:00 this morning, I cried out to God and asked Him to take this away from me.  He, after all, is our Great Physician.  By noon today, I felt 95% better.  Praises be to Him!

We had lunch and then prepared to meet our baby girl.  We departed at 2:00pm.  When we got there, the room was practically empty.

Our final moments of waiting began.  Then, Catherine (Holt employee), came to tell us that Naeleigh was just now getting there.  They were going to walk her through the room we were in, and take her behind the curtain.  Talk about dangling something in front of us!!  But, it was ok!  This is what we saw when they brought her through.

Her nap is from 12:00 - 2:00.  So, basically, she slept on the way to the office but did not get her nap out at all.

About ten mintues later, it's our turn!!!

Let the crying begin!

To try to calm her down, we offered her a cookie and a sucker.  Neither of which she was interested.

Nothing was really calming her down at this point.  Catherine told us in a meeting earlier today that her orphange was very fortunate and privaledged.  She has had music therapy and even been to hear live music.  This gave me the idea to start singing to her.  This isn't the greatest picture of me, but I love the look of contentment on her face.  She quit crying within 30 seconds.

Daddy's turn!

Mommy had to have another turn.

The fantastic news is, yes, she did cry a lot at first.  That shows she at least understands there is a big change going on and she was attached to her caregivers.

She really likes my hair.  And, she loved the shirt I was wearing (intentional choice!).  She kept playing with the jewels on it.

We got back to the room, and we tried to feed her a bottle, since it was time.  She drank a little.  Then we whipped out these bad boys: Cheerios!!  She compeltely loved them.  She ate some and then handed me the container back.

And this is what she is doing right now with her Daddy.

She does not appear to favor or reject either one of us.  We will see how the night goes on.

God is good....all the time.

  1. Praise the Lord! What a sweet and beautiful baby!! You have your precious Naeleigh! Oh, we have been thinking and praying for you all so much! God is so good! His hand and His love is all over this... it is an amazing picture of His love and grace. Joy is overflowing. And I believe heaven is rejoicing that there is one less orphan in the world! He has brought her to her forever family knowing that she will soon learn all about Jesus and His love for her! We cannot wait to see how the Lord uses her life for His glory!
(You know I just woke up around 6am...immediately thought of y'all and checked the blog... nothing. Did a few things and kept checking the blog now and then... and within 20 minutes... finally up came this new post! I am overjoyed! :) Thank God that you felt well when it was time to meet your girl! I remember that same room where we met Liana! She was already behind the curtain when we arrived, but someone pulled it back and we saw her early! We had tons of people in that room with us also adopting that day, so your room looked calmer and quieter. I love you singing to her, Ashlyn. God gave you a beautiful voice and how sweet that He used it to calm your baby the day she came into your arms! And the cheerios! Oh, that was like manna from heaven to calm our friend's boy, Jesiah, the day he met his parents for the first time! And to end it all with her just peaceful and sleeping on Daddy's chest... yes, God is so good! To God be the Glory! Love you, Susan

  3. Praise our great and awesome Lord! She is beau-t-ful! What an amazing picture of God's grace. I also can't believe how empty that room was! I bet it was kinda nice. We had babies everywhere crying and pitching a fit! I was soooo loud...but a wonderful kind of loud! I love the picture of Michael holding Naeleigh with that big string of drool hanging down! Love it! All the pictures are awesome...just feeling connected to what y'all are experiencing over there. What a joy! Y'all are going to have such a good time with her in her country. I loved China and the people. It really is an amazing place. So keep the pictures coming and enjoy every minute you're over there with that precious little "Chinese!"
Love you guys and can't wait to meet her,
